I'm on Etsy!

I have been throwing this idea around in the back of my head for a few months now. Quietly started drawing up sets and ideas for one of my hobbies, planning. I would absolutely lose my mind without my day planner (I prefer the Happy Planner by Me and My Big Ideas) and while I don’t NEED to add pretty stickers to it, well it’s just so fun and I find it helps keep me engaged in my planner weekly.

So I quietly started drawing up sets of stickers by hand and tucking them away with the thought that when I had enough (ten was my goal) I would open up an Etsy shop. And I did! In mid June I opened up MJGstudioCo on Etsy and it has kept me very, very busy!

July Studio Hours

Well we sure did go from spring to July heat in a hurry! This years weather has me all out of sorts. I have been working on setting up the new online sticker shop as well as having the studio open, however we are about to tackle a much needed roof replacement and have decided to be closed for July (and possibly August depending on how it goes) to take care of the roof. If there is anything that you need from the Studio feel free to send me a message, we ship items!

Latest from the studio

Those who have been able to stop into the studio since our 2019 opening earlier this month have noticed some changes! I’ve been making a bit of a pivot in my businesses (as I tend to do fairly regularly) and as a result am hoping to have the boutique open more regularly.

The studio now includes an art space for me to work in (I’m blessed to have several creative spaces in my home as well) which I will use to create more of my artwork and handmade creations for the boutique as well as continue to add things to my online shop which is currently lacking much of anything.

In addition to more week day hours (and as many Saturdays as my schedule allows) you will occasionally find South & Main set up here with a tent and tons of pretty white, silver and shabby chic finds.

Please keep an eye on our calendar as we add hours regularly (and sometimes last minute). Or follow along on our Facebook page for frequent updates.

Treasure Hunting

As a Pinterest junkie, artist, and lover of all things vintage I have been drooling over old artists boxes, tools and supplies. A few of my faves-

I just love the character they have with layers of paint and splatters built up over years of creating. If you come to my home, you will find similar splatters and smudges on not only my art tables, but my dining room table as well…. something it has taken my husband a few years to accept and now he simply says “she likes it that way” when asked.

I don’t know where all these vintage gems are hiding, probably in attics across the world dusty and forgotten. But after nearly two weeks with the kids home from school due to weather, I was ready for a day of treasure hunting to try and find one for myself.

My mom (South & Main in Dalton) and I took Saturday to scour the Columbus Antique mall for treasures. We spent HOURS just browsing, showing each other things we discovered and getting ideas. And then she found this…..

Hello lover!!!!! The woman who cleaned her up and brought her in for me to discover (the booth owner) just happened to be working her space when we found it. After chatting a bit about how she had cleaned it up (it’s in amazing shape) I just had to have it. Perhaps I will cover it in my own paint splatters for some future artist to swoon over.

We didn’t find as many vintage watercolor tins as we had expected but I did get this Prang tin. It had just a bit of original watercolor inside, which still worked, but I will fill it with my own.

I’m enjoying my winter while the studio is closed creating new art, learning new techniques and enjoying my quiet time. Dreaming of new ideas to add to the studio space in 2019.

Bee Inspired Vintage Market

• Bee Inspired vintage market •.jpg

Fall markets are my absolute favorite. The weather, the pumpkins, the beautiful colors, cozy home decor, scarves, boots, coffees, candle scents, I could go on and on about all the reasons fall is my favorite. September 22nd is the Bee Inspired Market here at Mj&G Studio. It is co-hosted with the three shops in down town Dalton. Together the four shops bring in around 70 jurried vendors and the town comes alive for the day. The market has a vintage and hand crafted focus. Each shop has it's own vibe and attracts vendors with similar styles.

Check out the facebook page for more details on this fun day!

Bee Blooming Market

The Bee Blooming Market is coming! It's our annual Mother's Day market is filled with vendors showcasing their hand made and vintage goods. Each of the four shops (Mj&G Studio, South & Main in Dalton, Dog & Gypsy and Ms. Bouvie's Vintage Market) hosts a variety of vendors both indoors and out for one day 9am-3pm. Here are some highlights from the vendors you will find at Mj&G Studio for 2018!

But I'm busy those days!

Dates not work for you? No problem. Part of the shop hop is all of the stores agreeing to be open on the same days to make it the easiest possible trip for you. But if these dates don't work, just hang on to the map, or check out this master list on the shop hop website, then look up the shops that interest you to find their normal hours.

Despite the rain almost all day long, we had a beautiful sunset on Brian and Vanessa's wedding day.  This couple could not stop smiling even while they stood in the rain with their small gathering of guests and said "I do" at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

I could not have asked for a sweeter couple to spend this special day with.

Cosmetics in the Studio

Did you know that we carry a full line of cosmetics? The studio started first as my photography business 6 years ago.  Before I was a photographer I was a cosmetologist so it was only natural that I offer hair and makeup styling for my photography clients.  And what woman has their makeup done and doesn't wish for the ability to purchase the products used?

I have been offering Senegence cosmetics in the studio since December 2016, before the boutique even came to be! While you will see me talk about LipSense most, we offer an entire line of cosmetics as well as skin care. Stop in the studio during any of our open hours to find out more, see our testers, and chat about the products!

Thank you!

thank you

The Bee Inspired Market is our fall market in the Bee Market series. While the weather did not agree to our fall moods, I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who came to our Grand Opening during the market. I had so much fun watching everyone's faces when they stepped into the shop for the first time. Then again when they found a treasure that they could take home with them. I told stories of how the shop came to be, listened to memories of customers who found something special, and laughed and smiled all day long.

The vendors, set up both inside and out, had a wonderful day and left with nothing but good things to say.  Thank you from all of us, for making us part of your weekend, for braving the heat, for making us smile.

Our First Weekend Open

Last weekend was our very first time opening the Mj&G Studio doors to customers. I decided at the last minute to open the doors and announced it quickly on Facebook with a few images. Wow, I was blown away by the fb response and our page has been rapidly growing since.

I am so happy that I decided to do a soft opening before our big event this weekend.  It really gave me a good feel for how people flow through the space.  Things I needed to improve on, and what is working well. And while a few treasures did make their way out of the shop, it made room for some new ones I hadn't been able to fit in yet!

So today will be spent un packing the new goodies and preparing for the vendors to join me for Saturday's market.  We hope to see you here, for our grand opening, Saturday Sept. 23rd 2017 from 9am-3pm.

Joining the Ranks

letter board with map to vintage boutique

I’m no stranger to setting up shop. I have watched my mother open a handful of businesses, my favorite thing to do as a kid was play secretary because I have a love of organizing things, setting things up, and office supplies. Most of the women in my family are shop owners. I’ve run a successful photography studio for over 5 years now. I’ve created goods and peddled at multiple vendor fairs big and small. But this time it’s different. I don’t mean as in I’m having some major come to Jesus moment where I’ve found some calling and the seas have parted.  No. In fact, this adventure came as quite a surprise and until just a month or so ago I hadn’t even thought of opening up shop.  But, I’m a jumper. I get an idea, sometimes I let it go, other times I’m all in before even a second thought. This is one of those times.

It is with great excitement that I open up shop along side “The Shops of Dalton” as I have dubbed them.  The four (five if you count the long standing bar and grill) shops on Main Street Dalton are all run by strong independent women, some of which are my family, the rest are my friends. And although I am not located on Main Street, I am a short 3.4 miles just down the road.  While my address is technically Pardeeville, I am joining the ranks for the Dalton Shops.

The studio will have it’s grand opening September 23rd, 2017.  We are kicking things off with the Bee Inspired Market (something all the shops participate in) with additional vendors inside and out. I hope to see you there.
